You will see the most colorful sunsets from the valley ‘Valle de la Luna’ and from the salt lake ‘Salar de Atacama’.  After a day’s trek through desert lands and bizarre canyons you refresh and relax in the thermal springs of Puritama. The Tatio geysers’ roaring vapor-columns and gushing waterswill give you a breathtaking performance of natures wonders.   The oasis San Pedro de Atacama with its characteristic adobe-houses will host us and be trailhead for our daily tours.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1
After your arrival at the airport in Calama we will directly take you to San Pedro de Atacama. On an elevation of 2,400m, the little town that has never lost a certain hippie-flair welcomes you with a variety of restaurants and bars. From here, we will take short hikes into the bizarre desert word surrounding the town. Together, we will wait for the sun to set in Valle de la Luna (Valley of the moon). The sunsets play of colors is absolutely breathtaking. We will stay overnight in a guesthouse with private bathrooms. (-/-/-)

Day 2
In the morning we will hike through the glaring and twinkling Cordillera del Sal until we reach the Valle de la Muerte (Death Valley). After a peaceful lunch in San Pedro we take a second hike in the afternoon. It will lead us to the two colored Laguna Cejas with its white salty rims. Before we head back to San Pedro we will visit the famous Salar de Atacama (salt lake) and observe the many different flamingo species that call this desert zone home. Meanwhile, the evening sun will have dipped the surrounding volcanoes into a bath of purple light. Second night in the guesthouse with private bathrooms. (B/-/-)

Day 3
Today, our 4-hour trek will lead us through the spectacularly rocky Guatin-Canyon (Quebrada de Guatin). Here we can marvel at the region’s typical flora. Although the Atacama desert is extremely droughty, it brings out all sorts of cactuses among which we will certainly find the eye-catching Cola de Zorro. After a refreshing picnic we will take a replenishing bath in the hot thermal springs of Puritama. Back in San Pedro we spend our night in the same guesthouse. (B/L/-)

Day 4
After an early breakfast we will go visit the Tatio-geysers at an elevation of 4,320m. The geysers roaring vapor-columns spread like ghostly wafts of mist over the thermal springs. On our way back we make a stop in the deserted settlement Atacameno Machuca. With a bit of luck we meet one of the few remaining locals who often offer empanadas or anticuchos de Llama. At about 1 pm we will reach San Pedro from where you will be brought to the airport in Calama. (B/-/-)
